Newtown Artesian Water Company

The Newtown Artesian Water Company (NAWC) is a public utility regulated by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency. NAWC provides water service to customers in Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, and the northern portion of Middletown Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The NAWC provides water service within a fully integrated, three-pressure zone distribution system: the low pressure service zone, the high pressure service zone and the Durham Road pressure zone.

There are a total of five wells supplying the NAWC system. The Company also purchases water from the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority (BCWSA). This water originates in the Delaware River and is treated by the Philadelphia Water Department. The wells supply about 45 percent of the total supply and the BCWSA supplies the remaining 55 percent. There are no surface water treatment plants in the NAWC system.

NAWC has two supply interconnections for purchase. Our major source of supply, as indicated above, is with BCWSA which has a maximum delivery capacity of 4.5 MGD. The second interconnection is with the Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC). This is an emergency interconnect only and has an estimated capacity of 0.75 MGD.
